FM Haruna Nsubuga lifts inaugural Equity Bank Open title.

FM Haruna Nsubuga of Uganda beat a strong field of players to emerge the winner of the 2016 Equity Bank Open Chess Tournament that came to an end at the Luke Hotel, Nairobi last weekend.

FM Patrick Kawuma also of Uganda tied with 5/6 points but Haruna was declared winner as he had a higher tie break.  They equally shared a total cash prize of KES 80,000 (USD 800).

In joint second was IM Arthur Ssegwanyi of Uganda, Peter Gilruth and Mehul Gohil with 4.5/6 points.

In the Open section Austin Walela clinched the top prize with 6.5/7 with Joseph Methu and Moses Andiwoh in joint second with 6/7 points.

In the Ladies section Joyce Nyaruai proved that she is the best lady player in Kenya by winning this section with 6.5/7 to go home with a glittering trophy and KES 20,000 (USD 200).

The event attracted a total of about 160 players in total.
