Peter Gilruth lifts the 5th Capablanca Cup
Last weekend, Peter Gilruth emerged as the winner with a perfect score of 5/5 to pocket KES 8,000 in the 5th Capablanca Cup Chess Championship held at the Braeburn School, Gitanga Road. The hotly contested event saw 46 players battling for honours over the weekend of 21st and 22nd February 2015.
In second place was Mehul Gohil with 4.5 points, and he went home with KES 5,000. Third place went to Martin Oyamo, a star player from the 1980s.
Dr Mujahid Din and Edwin Machio were the event’s sponsors, and it was one of the first events of the year to be rated by FIDE.
Mr Douglas Ratemo, the CEO of National Youth Talent Academy, graced the closing ceremony together with Mr Githinji Hinga, the Chairman of Chess Kenya.

3rd winner IM Elijah Emojong – Uganda (2013)
4th winner Jackson Kamau – Kenya (2014)
