Steve Ouma wins inaugural Peter Le Pelly Cup in grand style

Steve Ouma displayed incredible prowess to garner 4.5/5 in the inaugural Peter Le Pelly Cup held at the Goan Gymkhana Club, Nairobi on 30th January 2016.

This was the first chess tournament in 2016 and attracted a total of 40 players many of whom were taking part in their first ever tournament.

Steve overcame Tom Amwai, Lwanga Karoli, Milton Kihara, and Mehul Gohil before settling for  a tough draw against Peter Gilruth in the last round.

The prize fund of this event was received a late massive boost from Vasant Ramesh who donated Nakumatt vouchers to increase the prize fund from KES 8,000 to KES 14,000 (USD 140).

Steve Ouma went home with KES 8,000 Nakumatt vouchers, Joseph Methu with KES 3,000 and Peter Gilruth with KES 1,000.  The junior prize was won by Aguda Lwanga who took home a KES 1,000 Nakumatt voucher.

The next event for Nairobi Chess Club is the 6th Capablanca Cup which is set for the weekend of 20th & 21st February 2016 at the Braeburn School, Gitanga Road.
