The 2016 Baku Olympiad Selection event started today morning at the KCB Club, Ruaraka, Nairobi.
There has been a lot of drama in our Kenyan chess and this is an extract of an email sent by Mr Githinji Hinga (Chairman) of Chess Kenya to FIDE on 8th June 2016.
N/B. We strongly urge FIDE to comply with the legal position in Kenya as has been communicated to them by the Kenya National Sports Council, The Sports Disputes Tribunal and the valid Chess Kenya officials to enable us make progress on this matter, otherwise participation of Kenya in the forthcoming World Chess Olympiad and various Youth/Junior Chess Championships is now in jeopardy as action is likely to be taken by our law enforcement authorities against any Kenyan who will purport to select a National Team contrary to lawful orders.
The last sentence is pretty ominous and talks of the use of law enforcement authorities……. that is scary!
