The University of Eldoret Chess Tournament was a two day event that took place during the weekend of 18th & 19th June 2016 at the institution.
This was part of the sport festival that included both indoor games and field games. Chess attracted four institutions;
- University of Eldoret
- Technical University of Kenya
- St Paul’s University – Nakuru campus
- Rift Valley Institute
A total of five rounds were played and the top five positions were taken by;
- Dennis Masese – Technical University of Kenya
- William Nyaga – Technical University of Kenya
- Doughlas Wamugunda – University of Eldoret
- Garang – St Paul’s University
- Benard Wang’ombe – Technical University of Kenya
The final institution ranking saw Technical University of Kenya take the top position and University of Eldoret were the runners up.
This event was a warm up one for the 10th East African Universities Games which is scheduled to be held at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in December 2016.
The other major event involving universities is the 10th edition of the All Africa University Games (FASU – Federation of African Universities Sports) which will take place from 26th June to 2nd July 2016 in Johannesburg, South Africa. At this stage it is not clear if any Kenyan universities are going to attend this event in South Africa.
The 7th edition of the All Africa University Games was held in Nairobi, Kenya from 11th to 18th July 2014 and featured on this website – All Africa University Games 2014.
