Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology were the host of the 2016 edition of the East African Universities Games which ran from 16th to 21st December 2016.

Events included Athletics-Track and Field, Basketball, Badminton, Chess, Football, Handball, Hockey, Netball, Rugby (Men 7’s), Scrabble, Swimming, Tennis, Table-Tennis, Tae-Kwon-Do, Karate, Volleyball, & Softball.

The Open section attracted 14 teams from Uganda and Kenya while the Ladies section attracted 12 teams. The sad news was that we only had chess teams from Uganda and Kenya taking part.

In the Open Section Uganda dominated the event by taking the top 3 places. The overall winner was Kyambogo University with 16 points followed by Makerere University Business School with 13 points and in 3rd place was Mbarara University of Science & Technology with 12 points University of Nairobi were 4th with 11 points.
In the Ladies Section University of Nairobi came out tops with 12 points. WFM Joyce Nyaruai of Technical University of Kenya (TUK) put up an impressive performance by winning all 7 of her games to lead her team to 4th place.

The last time that Kenya hosted this prestigious event was in 2009.
