Kenya wins inaugural Africa Zone 4.2 Under 16 Youth Team Chess Championship

Kenya won the inaugural Africa Zone 4.2 Under 16 Youth Team Chess Championship with surprising ease .  The event that ran from 15th to 22nd April 2017 at the Oshwal Academy, Mombasa was open to all Africa Zone 4.2 countries.

Zone 4.2 consists of the following13  countries; Burundi, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

A total of 6 teams (4 from Kenya and one from Tanzania and one from Uganda) took part which saw Kenya occupy the top four slots.

The winning team will receive a subsidy for the 2018 World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad which will be held in Ahmedabad, India from 10th to 20th December 2017.

The last continental event that Kenya hosted was the Africa Junior Chess Championship in 1998.
