I am not sure how many readers will recall the boxing matches of the 1970’s involving the legendary Muhammed Ali and his formidable rival Joe Frazier.
We had the “Rumble in the Jungle” in Kinshasa, Zaire on 30th October 1974 and then the “Thrilla in Manila” in Manila, Philippines a year later on 1st October 1975.
Chess players in Kenya are looking forward to a similar contest on the chess board when loud mouth Mehul Gohil takes on equally brash and up coming star Bryan Toboso in an exciting 4 round match next weekend.
Brian Kidula the CEO of Terrian Chess Academy is the promoter of this event. In his usual flamboyant way he has produced a promotional video which has been circulating on social media.
Mehul Gohil vs Bryan Toboso Promotional Video
Bryan Toboso threw down the gauntlet after winning the 2017 Makadara Open in early May 2017 where he came ahead of several strong players including top rated player IM Elijah Emojong of Uganda. In the last round he crushed Mehul Gohil who is now on a revenge mission to redeem himself. See story on Bryan Toboso wins the 2017 Makadara Open.
Each contestant has been throwing jabs at each other on social media which has now generated considerable interest within the wider Kenya community.
This website will carry out exclusive interviews with the contestants in the next days and will be providing live coverage of the game.
