Don Bosco Chess Club Youth Chess Championship

We need to visit our neighbour’s once in a while to see what they are up to.  This time we go to Tanzania where chess is starting to gain rapid traction amongst the youth due to a small band  of highly dedicated individuals.

We have featured many stories from Tanzania on this website and some of the recent one includes; IM Arthur Ssegwanyi wins 2016 Tanzania Open and Tanzania in the 2016 Baku Olympiad and IM Elijah Emojong wins 2015 Tanzania Open.

Don Bosco Chess Club in Tanzania celebrates its first anniversary with a youth tournament which will be held on 24th June 2017 at New Africa Hotel located in downtown Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The event is a six round event with four categories U8, U10, U12 and U16.  Don Bosco’s best player Cleophas Charles is also scheduled to play a simultaneous match against the top 16 players who emerge from this event.

Cleophas Charles has been a great influence among his peers and this match will boost his confidence and stimulate keen media interest.

The event has been proudly sponsored by Yash International (T) Ltd.  Subsidiary support for this event has come from the Chairman of the Tanzania Chess Foundation Mr Vinay Chaudary.

Yash International (T) Ltd are a new sponsor who have come on-board and have pledged to support this fledgling club  with the aim of empowering the youths through chess.
