Chess activity in Mombasa moved a notch higher when the Light Academy School Chess Tournament was held on 1st July, 2017 at Light Academy School in Nyali, Mombasa.
The event attract about 50 junior players from various school in Mombasa. These included Oshwal Academy, Qubaa Muslim School, M.M Shah & M.V Shah Academy, Aga Khan Academy, Aga Khan High and the host Light Academy School.
The following were the top players in their respective categories.
Under 10
1st – Shubh Shah of Oshwal Academy with 5/6.
2nd – Deeyan Dawda of Oshwal Academy with 4.5/5.
3rd – Position was Henriques Katema of M.M Shah and M.V Shah with 4/5.
Rheya Shah of Oshwal Academy was the best girl with 2.5/5.
Under 14
1st – John Kamau of M.M Shah and M.V Shah School with 4.5/5.
2nd – Ryan Maina of Aga Khan Academy with 4/5.
3rd – Hythan Shariff of Qubaa Muslim School with 3.5/5.
Under 18
1st – Gedion Mtango of Oshwal Academy with 5/5.
2nd – Hussen Shabir of Aga Khan High with 4.5/5.
3rd – Mohamed Marwna of Light Academy School with 4/5.
Ilham Kabar of Light Academy was the top girl with 3/5 points followed by Amira Abdi-Laziz and Amal Abdu-Laziz both from Qubaa Muslim School, with 2/5 points.
The event was organised by Light Academy School in conjunction with Mombasa Chess Academy.
