2017 Mukuru Schools Junior Chess Championship
A report by Erick Oyugi
The 2nd edition of the Mukuru Schools Junior Chess Championship ended yesterday with over 200 children taking part.
The first edition had 78 children and the 2nd edition registered 216 children all below 15 years. They were in four categories, U8, U10, U12 and U15.
We are grateful for the support from Chess Kenya for the assistance with 40 chess clocks.
For the first time we used our own customised chess boards, thanks to Paul Allen & The Robert Katende Initiative.
The tournament was fully supported by SOM Chess Academy and the Robert Katende Initiative.
Special thanks to the staff of Sports Outreach Kenya and the different teachers and coaches for the great work done in organising this year’s edition.
We had instructors from Uganda go to help out with the event and included coach Robert Katende, Phiona Mutesi, Stellah Nabasitu, Benjamin Mukumbya and Rahim Khan.
Special appreciation to all individuals, families and organisations behind this work! THANK YOU.
