Nairobi Chess Club last Saturday launched the first in a series of events dubbed “Road to Batumi” as part of the preparations for the 2018 Chess Olympiad which will be held in Batumi, Georgia from 23rd September to 7th October 2018.
The first event held on 1st July 2017 was a Quad event with 45 minutes time control that attracted a total of 16 players.
The other events lined up include a FIDE rated 4 round limited to 16 players split in two equal groups via their ratings. This will run over one weekend with 2 hours for 40 moves plus 30 minutes to finish the game.
The entry fee for these events are expected to be under KES 1,000 as there will be no trophies or cash prizes.
These events are designed to prepare Kenyans for the Olympiad qualifier events which will take place next year.
