Africa Schools Individuals Chess Championship 2017

A strong delegation of 16 players from Kenya are taking part in the for Africa Schools Individuals Chess Championship that runs from 19th to 28th August 2017 in Harare,Zimbabwe.

The event has 177 players from 10 African federations including Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Seychelles, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia.

The strongest players in the event are from Angola and include Junior Domingos who is rated 1772 in the Boys U13  and WFM Pires Luzia who is rated 1725 in the Girls U13.

The team is being captained by reigning under the Boys U14 Kenya National Chess Champion Jeff Gichuki and the Girls U14 Kenya National Champion champion Vivian Muthoni.  The full list of players is shown below.

In the 2016 edition 2016 African Schools Individuals Chess Championship Kenya won a total of 5 medals including 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.

The Head of Delegation (HoD) is  Chess Kenya Assistant Treasurer Terence Chazima. He is supported by other 11 accompanying persons who are mainly parents and coaches.

FM Steve Ouma will be an arbiter of the tournament.
