Aryan Tari & Zhansaya Abdumalik are World Junior Champions

GM Aryan Tari of Norway and WIM Zhansaya Abdumalik of Kazakhstan  were yesterday afternoon crowned World Junior U20 Chess Champions in their respective sections in the  Italian town of Treviso.

The 11 round event which ran from 13th to 25th November saw some exciting chess from these players who are poised to become the stars of the future.

Africa was represented by IM David Silva (ANG), WIM Caxita Esperance (ANG), WIM Jesse February (RSA), CM Roland Bezuidenhout (RSA) and IM Fy Antenaina Rakotomaharo (MAD).

Top ranked player in the Open section was GM Jorden van Foreest of Holland rated at 2616 while in the Ladies section the top player was IM Zhansaya Abdumalik of Kazakhstan.

Bors Spassky (1955), Anatoly Karpov (1969), Garry Kasparov (1980), Viswanathan Anand (1987) and Levon Aronian (2002), Adly Ahmed (2007) are some of the previous winners of this prestigious event.

The Open section had 148 players while the Girls section had 89 players.  The whole event had 64 federations present with 26 GM’s, 4 WGM’s, 48 IM’s and 24 WIM’s.

IM David Silva (ANG) scored 5 points and WIM Caxita Esperance (ANG) scored 3 points.

WIM Jesse February (RSA) ended up with 4 points  and CM Roland Bezuidenhout (RSA) had 4 points. 

IM Fy Antenaina Rakotomaharo (MAD) ended with 6 points.
