Emojong wins 2017 Tanzania Open

IM Elijah Emojong of Uganda won the 2017 Tanzania Open at the Peacock Hotel in Dar-es-Salaam which ended on 26th November after 4 days of intense action.

IM Elijah Emojong was in sparkling form to secure 6.5 points from his 7 games and win the event by a full point ahead of local CM Yusuf Mdoe and go home with TSH 800,000 (USD 360).

Githinji Hinga  who was the sole Kenyan in the event stumbled in the final round 7 when he lost to CM Yusuf Mdoe to end up in joint third place with 5 points.

Githinji Hinga’s was one of the clear favourites to win this event after he held top ranked player IM Elijah Emojong to an exciting draw in round 5.

The Open section had 28 players while the U8, U10, U12 and U18 had a total of 62 players.

IM Elijah Emojong won the inaugural 2015 Tanzania Open as well while IM Arthur Ssegwanyi (Uganda) won the 2016 Tanzania Open.
