Fathima Mohideen Mohamed of Kenya stunned her Egyptian hosts last week when she grabbed a gold medal at the just concluded 2017 African Youth Chess Championship.
The event which ran from 3rd to 9th December 2017 in Giza, Cairo attracted a total of 145 players from Algeria, Angola, Egypt, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Morocco, Namibia, South Africa, Tunisia, Uganda and Zambia.
Fathima a grade 6 student of Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj School in Nairobi scored a perfect 7/7 in the U12 Section that included a number of strong Egyptian players. She won the prestigious WFM title for her efforts.
