James Panchol Retains Le Pelley Cup
James Panchol employed his usual swashbuckling style to win the 3rd edition of the Peter Le Pelley Cup.
The event was the first FIDE rated event for the year and was held over the weekend of 13th & 14th January 2018 at Goan Gymkhana Club, Nairobi.
The event saw 24 players slug it out over 5 rounds of 90 minutes each to compete for a cash prize fund of KES 21,500 (USD 200).
James Panchol and Vasanth Ramesh tied with 4.5 points but James Panchol had a higher tie break to go home with the winner’s shield. They both shared a cash prize of KES 14,000 (USD 140).
James Panchol has recently changed federations from Kenya to South Sudan. We have enclosed one of his games from the event against Kenya’s top ranked player Peter Gilruth.
