Mombasa Juniors Prepare For Battle

The first weekend of February 2018 saw junior chess players in Mombasa clash in at Tumaini Children’s Home, Bamburi Mombasa .

The event attracted player’s from Aga Khan High School, Aga Khan Primary, Oshwal Academy, Aga Khan Academy, Mikoroshoni Primary, Light Academy and the host Tumaini Children’s Home.

In the U10 category Shubh Shah and Tanisha Shah both from Oshwal Academy emerged top boy and girl.  They each garnered 4 and 3 points respectively out of the possible 6 points.

Shayne Shah of Aga Khan Academy had 5/6 to emerge the top boy in the U14 category.

Swabrina Shaban of Aga Khan Primary scored 3½ to emerge top girl.

Peter Njogu from Tumaini Children’s Home topped in the U18 after a tie breaker match with Ryan Maina of Aga Khan Academy who settled for 1st runners up.

Lucy Thoya from Mikoroshoni Primary topped the girls’ category with 3½ points

Mombasa Chess Academy were the organisers of this event.  This was as preparations for the upcoming Kenya National Youth Chess Championship which is set for 3rd March at MM Shah & MV Shah Academy, Mombasa.
