Jackson Kamau wins 2018 Nairobi Open

Jackson Kamau did Kenya proud when he emerged tops at the 2018 Nairobi Open Chess Championship.

Jackson Kamau topped the table with a total of 6 points jointly with top seed IM Elijah Emojong and FM Haruna Nsubuga both of Uganda.  He was declared winner on tie break.  All 3 players equally shared a total of KES 55,000 (USD 550).

The 3rd edition of this event was organised by Nairobi Chess Academy & Club at the Makini School, Nairobi.  A total of 110 players took part in the event with 50 in the Open, 42 in the Junior section and 20 in the U10 section.

The biggest upset of the event was when Ricky Sang (1966) defeated top ranked IM Elijah Emojong (2296) of Uganda.

Brian Wangombe of Alliance High won the Junior section with 6 points.  Ray Gabriel of Makini School was the winner in the U10 section with 5 points.
