We had reported earlier that Juja St Peter’s School was taking part in a Russian chess tournament. This was the 49th edition of the Belaya Ladya (White Rook). The event ran from 1st to 9th June 2018 in Dagomys, Sochi in Russia. See story on – Kenyan players in Russian Chess Festival.
Velammal Vidyacaya from Chennai, India were the winners of this year’s edition. The Indian schoolchildren defeated all their rivals in 9 rounds to score 33.5 points. The winners are entitled to participate in the Aeroflot Open 2019.
The chess players from Yekaterinburg were the best among the Russian teams. The silver medalists scored 25.5 points.
The representatives from Saint Petersburg took the third place with 24 points.
Juja St Peter’s School ended up at 97th out of 100 teams in this tough and prestigious event. They scored a total of 4 points which came from 2 draws and 1 win out of 9 games.
