Round 6 – Kenya v Columbia – Open Section

Round 6 saw Kenya paired against Columbia after 3 consecutive wins.   The match was set on board 33 in Hall 1 that had the top teams in the world.  Exciting moments for Kenyan chess.

The final results was a 4-0 loss for Kenya.  However there was great excitement within the Kenyan team and fans back home.  CM Ben Magana had GM Felipe Alcaraz on the ropes in the middle game.  This was so close yet so far.  CM Ben Magana made a few incorrect moves that allowed GM Felipe Alcaraz pull off a win.

Terrian Chess Academy had organised an event with live transmission & commentary of this particular round.

The venue was Originelle Restaurant in down town Nairobi together with a Blitz event.

The winner of the Blitz event was LGM Brian Kidula who was the host.

The Ladies Team fought well against Madagascar but lost marginally 2.5 to 1.5 points.

Interview with the Polgar sisters.

The other big item today was the interview of all the 3 Polgar sisters.  The interview centered on how motherhood affects lady chess players and was hosted by WGM Nino Maisuradze.

History of Georgian Chess Book.

Another item for the day was the presentation on the history of Georgian chess books.  The lecture by delivered by the two-time World Champion in Chess Composition David Gurgenidze.
