Jia Hiranandani Grabs Silver Medal

Jia Hiranandani grabbed a silver medal for Kenya during the 2018 African Individual Schools Chess Championship.

The event which took place in Limpopo, South Africa ran from 6th to 12th December 2018.  A total of 74 players took part in this prestigious event.  Players from Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Angola, Kenya, Malawi and host South Africa were represented.

Jia’s silver medal came in the Girls U11-13 category that had 14 players.

Jia Hiranandani is a grade 7 student at Oshwal Academy Junior, Nairobi.  She has represented Kenya in a number of international events.

Jia currently plays for NACHA Kings in the Kenya National Chess League.

With this result, Jia Hiranandani earned herself a provincial Woman Candidate Master(WCM) title.
