    Waridi Open Chess Championship 2018

    The 2018 Waridi Open Chess Championship took place on 9th December 2018.

    The venue this time was the magnificent, Michael Joseph Centre, located at the Safaricom Headquarters, Nairobi.

    The event was run in two sections.  The U7&9 Section had a total of 16 players.

    The U11, 13 & 17 Section had a total of 22 players.

    The winners were as follows:

    Boys U17 – Sunil Subramaniam

    Girls U17 – Nishi V Shah

    Boys U13 – Lalith Valluru

    Girls U13 – Liza Patel

    Boys U11 –  Danwillies Gachai

    Girls U11 – Kayleen Kinyua

    Boys U9 – Prathum V Shah

    Girls U9 – Angel Gathigia

    Boys U7 – Jeremiah Kagambi

    Girls U7 – Riya Himanshu Shah

    The event was organised by Waridi Chess Ventures in partnership with Baylec Music Academy.

    Waridi Chess Ventures were the pioneers in getting Winka Academy to make chess a compulsory subject from grade 1 to 8.

    Lawrence Kagambi who is a former Kenya National Champion is the proprietor of Waridi Chess Ventures.

    He is still a keen and active tournament chess player.
