Eastern Regional Schools Chess Qualifiers Championship
The Kenya National Youth and Cadet Chess Championships 2019 (KNYCC) Eastern Regional qualifiers were held on 9th February 2019. The venue for the event was Mosa Secondary School.
Many regions are currently hosting their regional qualifiers in preparations of the finals set for April 2019.
Most regional events have over 300 players while this event only seemed to attract about 100 players from 6 schools.
It is, however this region that has caught my attention. It is the one event where the number of female players exceeds male players by a ratio of 3:1!! I am at a loss to explain why this is the case. It seems very unusual even from a global perspective.
It is most likely that this region will produce the Kenya Ladies National Champion in the next four years.
