Gloria Jumba wins Queen’s Rapid Chess Tournament

Gloria Jumba cruised to a comfortable win in the inaugural Queen’s Rapid Chess Tournament.  She is the current Kenya National Champion.

She obtained 5.5 points out of 6 games in an event that attracted 80 ladies.  This was by far the biggest ladies event ever held in Kenya.

WCM Joyce Nyaruai also had 5.5 points but had a lower tie break.

Naiya Gosrani the 13 year student from Hillcrest Secondary School was impressive when ended up in third position with 5 points.

Kenyan ladies proved once again that they are prepared to do so much more as they were the ones who organised and ran this event.

The event had an impressive prize fund of KES 53,000 (USD 530) with the winner going home with KES 20,000 (USD 200).

IM Tshepiso Lopang from Botswana was the Chief Guest.
