Russia honours its chess players

Russia continued the tradition of honouring it’s star chess players.  President Vladimir Putin’s Edict No 140 was issued on 1st April 2019.

Andrey Filatov who is the Head Coach of the Russian National men’s chess team and RCF President was awarded the Order of Friendship.  This was in recognition of the performance of the Russian chess players at the King Salman World Rapid and Blitz Championships held in St Petersburg in December 2018.

Kateryna Lagno on the other hand was awarded a first-class Medal of the Order ‘For Merit to the Fatherland‘. She was crowned World Blitz Chess Champion in December 2018.

No Kenyan chess player have ever received an national award to date.
