Bellahcene Bilel is King of Zone 4.1

GM Bellahcene Bilel of Algeria is the winner of the Zone 4.1 Chess Championship.  He was in fantastic form when he cruised to a perfect score of 9 points out of 9 games.

GM Bellahcene Bilel will represent Zone 4.1 in the upcoming World Cup in September 2019. He also earned Euro 1,000 for his effort.

Khanty-Mansiysk in Russia is the host city for the World Cup.

The Zone 4.1 Chess Championship took place in the city of Oran, Algeria.  The event commenced on 24th April and ended on 1st May 2019.

A total of 10 players from 3 federations took part.  These included seven from Algeria, two from Tunisia and one from Mauritania.

Libya, Morocco, Mali, and Senegal were missing from this prestigious event.

IM Zaibi Amir of Tunisia was 2nd with 7.5 points.  FM Fellah Mohammed Amine of Algeria was 3rd with 6 points.

It is unfortunate that there was no event for the ladies in Zone 4.1.  The three other African Zones 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 all had a category for ladies.

GM Bellahcene Bilel

Bellahcene Bilel who is 21 years old, played on Board 1 for Algeria in the 2018 Batumi Olympiad.  He was born in Strasbourg, France and changed his federation from France to Algeria in July 2018.

GM Bellacene Bilel is Algeria’s top-ranked player with a rating of 2534.  Algeria boasts of 2 other Grandmasters and 10 International Masters.

Mohamed Haddouche (2483) and Aimen Rizouk (2439) are the other two Grandmasters from Algeria.
