Kenya Methodist University win Lighthouse Inter-Universities & College title
Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) are the proud winners of the inaugural Lighthouse Inter-Universities & Colleges Teams Chess Championship.
The University of Nairobi was the venue, and the event ran from 25th to 26th of May 2019
The event had an impressive line up of 18 teams from 11 Universities.
1. Makerere University from Uganda.
2. University on Nairobi.
3. Strathmore University.
4. Kenyatta University.
5. JKUAT.
6. Kenya Methodist University.
7. Chuka University.
8. Kisii University.
9. Mt. Kenya University.
10. Technical University of Kenya.
11. USIU.
The tournament was probably the biggest Inter-University event held in Kenya in the recent past.
Makerere University team was top seed having an average rating of 1805.
The Final Ranking was:
Overall Winner: Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) 18 Match Points.
Runners Up: Makerere University 16 Match Points.
Second Runners Up: Strathmore University [Team A] 16 Match Points.
4th Position: TUK [Team A] 15 Match Points.
5th Position: Kenyatta University 12 Match Points.
WCM Joyce Nyaruai was the best lady player with 5 points out of the possible 7.
The top players in the Open section all had 6.5 points out of 7 games. These included;
Elvis Likoko from Strathmore University.
Francis Michuki from the Technical University of Kenya.
Jacob Boul of Kenya Methodist University.
