61st Nairobi Chess Club Championship
Nairobi Chess Club has released details of the Nairobi Chess Club Championship which takes place in August 2019.
The event will have three separate sections: the Open section, U1800 and U1600, which allows players of all levels to compete and win something.
The cash prize fund stands at KES 75,000 (KES 750) with the winner in the Open section taking home KES 20,000 (USD 200).
To take part in the Open section will require a player to have a minimum rating of 1700. For the U1800 the minimum rating has been set at 1500. This segregation will ensure that each section is competitive enough.
FM Haruna Nsubuga of Uganda who is the defending Champion has indicated that he will most likely take part.
This particular event attracts several strong players from Uganda. Last year a total of 18 players from Uganda took part!
Several Kenyan players are expected to take part in this event. The only exceptions will be players who are taking part in the All Africa Games which runs from 23rd to 29th August 2019.
Mehul Gohil, Ricky Sang, WCM Joyce Nyaruai and WFM Sasha Mongeli will most likely miss the event as they will represent Kenya at the AAG.
Several sponsors have come forward to support the event. These include Aslam Adam, Peter Gilruth, James Krimi and Roberto Villuela.
