Sajid Nurmohamed lifts MCA Chess Crown

Sajid Nurmohamed won the inaugural Mombasa Chess Academy Open Tournament last weekend.

He was unbeaten and obtained 5.5 points out of 6 rounds. James Kabui also earned 5.5 points but had a lower tie-break.

Both Sajid Nurmohamed and James Kabui shared the top 2 prizes of KES 15,000 (USD 150).

Junior Section

The event had two separate sections. The Open section had 26 players while the Junior section had 14 players.

Ethan Maina was the clear winner of the event with 6 points. Adiel Kipkorir was second with 5 points. Eliana Maina and Sam Lawrence were in joint third with 4 points each.

Mombasa Chess Academy (MCA)

MCA was set up in May 2017 to offer structured chess training to junior players in Mombasa, and it’s environs.

The training sessions commence on Saturday from 3 pm at Links Plaza, Links Road. Training resumes on Sunday from 9:30 am at Cafe Mocha next to Nyali Cinemas and 2 pm at YWCA.
