Zone 4.4 U16 Team Chess Championship
Zone 4.4 U16 Team Chess Championship will be proudly hosted by Kenya. South Sudan, was supposed to host the event, but pulled out at the last minute.
Readers will be aware that FIDE has implemented a new zonal structure for Africa with effect from 1st July 2019. Kenya was in Zone 4.2, which has changed to Zone 4.4. Madagascar is the latest country in the group while Egypt has moved to Zone 4.1 (which covers Northern Africa). See story on the new zone Africa get a new zonal structure.
The event will run from 5th to 12th December 2019 at Luke Hotel, Nairobi.
Chess Kenya has also released selections details of Team Kenya.
Chess Kenya as hosting Federation will have a right to field 5 Teams. One invited Team and Four Additional Teams. In case of an odd number of Teams, a sixth Team can play.
The Federation will constitute and fully sponsor One Invited Team giving priority to players who will still be Under 16 in 2020 and based on merit (only position 1-2 in Under 14 & 16).

Additional Teams
The slots for Additional Team are open on a first come first serve basis but must conform to the following conditions.
1. Team members must have participated in the National Youth Championships 2019
2. The team must meet the composition required of three boys and two girls
3. The team can include a maximum of two non-citizens
4. Each team will meet all costs associated and must be paid by 15th November 2019. Amount due is USD 110 (African Chess Confederation fees USD 50 plus tournament registration fees USD 60).
