2019 Jamhuri Cup
Nairobi Chess Club have released details of the 3rd edition of the Jamhuri Cup Chess Tournament.

The event runs over the weekend of 7th & 8th December 2019 over 4 rounds. Group A will have the top 8 players who register and the time control will be 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move. Group B will comprise the next 16 players with a 2 hour time control.
Peter Gilruth is the two times defending champion and who has confirmed that he is coming to defend his title.

This event is held to celebrate Kenya’s independence day from Britain which took place on 12th December 1963. Kenyans celebrate 12th of December as ‘Jamhuri Day‘.
This event will offer a welcome alternative to those players who cannot take part in the Kenya National Chess Championship which is set to run from 11th to 15th December 2019.
The Kenya National Championship is limited only to players who are Kenyan citizens and runs over 5 days.
The 2019 Kenya National Championship has a bumper cash prize fund of USD 18,000 making it one of most lucrative event in Africa.
