2019 Kenya National Chess Championship Day 3

Day 3 of the 2019 Kenya National Chess Championship continued to provide high drama.

The most exciting clash was between  CM Ben Magana who faced Ben Nguku on board 1 in round 5.

Joseph Methu defeated veteran CM John Mukabi in a short game on board 2.

Nathan Ateka who came out of retirement demolished Ricky Sang on board 3.

Mehul Gohil overcame Brian Adorwa on board 4.

Defending Champion Dr Victor Ng’ani succumbed to upcoming youngster Martin Njoroge on board 5.

Rodger’s Adai on board 9 defeated rising start James Kibiui.

Open Round 6

Round 6 saw a few more intense games.

Ben Nguku handed Kenya’s number 1 player Joseph Methu a rare defeat on Kenyan soil.

Mehul Gohil played well to overcome Matthew Kanegeni.

Martin Njoroge who is playing well in the event held veteran Nathan Ateka to a draw.

CM Ben Magana lost his second game of the day to Lawrence Kagambi on board 4.

Dr Victor Ng’ani defeated Joseph Maigua on board 9.

Easter Awinja continued with a winning streak by overcoming 14 year old Naiya Gosrani in round 5.

WCM Joyce Nyaruai on the other hand defeated WFM Sasha Mongeli on board 2.

WFM Sasha Mongeli stopped the ‘Awinja Express‘ when she defeated Easter Awinja in round 6. It was Easter’s first defeat in the tournament.

WCM Lucy Wanjiru defeated Vivian Muthoni in round 6.

Round 6 and 7 will be played on Saturday with the final round on Sunday 15th December 2019.  Riara Spring’s School in Imara Daima, Nairobi is the venue for the event.
