KCB Bank Chess Club crowned 2019 Kenya Premier Chess League winners
KCB Bank Chess Club are the winners of 2019 Kenya Premier Chess League. They won all their matches to score a maximum of 78 points.
Anchor Chess Club ended up in 2nd place with 69 points.
Equity Bank Chess Club, the winners of the 2017 and 2018 edition, managed to grab the third spot with 63 points.
Nairobi Chess Academy & Club also obtained 63 points but had a lower tie-break and hence ended up in 4th position.
On the other hand Nairobi Chess Club finished 5th with 59 points.
The 2019 Kenya Premier Chess League had a total of 27 teams from all over the country.
It is interesting to note that NACHA Kings ended up in 9th spot with 49 points despite fielding a full junior squad.
Another interesting point to note is the fact that most of Uganda’s top players also take part. IM Arthur Ssegwanyi and FM Patrick Kawuma play for Equity Bank Chess Club. FM Harold Wanyama and FM Haruna Nsubuga play for KCB Bank Chess Club. Mike Akabo turns out for Anchor Chess Club.
The Prize Giving ceremony was held at the end of the 2019 Kenya National Chess Championship at Riara Springs School.
