Jackson Kamau wins 2020 Olympiad 2nd Phase Tournament
Jackson Kamau was the winner of the 2020 Olympiad 2nd Phase Qualifiers held last weekend at Parklands Sports Club, Nairobi. He emerged as the clear winner with 5 points out of 6 rounds.

Martin Njoroge was second with 4.5 points.
The 24 participants selected were from the 2019 Kenya National Championship that took place in December 2019.

Final Phase
The top eight players in the event will join three other players in the Final Phase to select the top five players to make up the Olympiad team.
The three players include Mehul Gohil (2019 Kenya National Champion), Joseph Methu (top-ranked player) and Robert Mcligeyo (Top Junior).

James Kabui who is one of Kenya’s promising youngsters found the going tough and ended up with 3.5 points and in 11th in ranking dashing his hopes for the Olympiad.

The average rating of the event was 1948 making it one of Kenya’s toughest events.

WFM Sasha Mongeli won the section with 5.5 points out of 6 rounds. She is the proud recipient of the 2018 Star-Times Award.

Julie Mutisya was second with 4.5 points.
The top 8 players in this section will join three other players in the Final Phase. The three players include WCM Lucy Wanjiru (2019 National Champion), WCM Joyce Nyaruai (top-ranked) and Naiya Gosrani (Top Junior).
The average rating of this event was 1426.
