    WCM Joyce Nyaruai wins Queen’s Rapid Chess Tournament

    WCM Joyce Nyaruai wins Queen’s Rapid Chess Tournament

    WCM Joyce Nyaruai won the 2nd edition of the Queen’s Rapid Chess Tournament held at Makini School, Nairobi on 15th February 2020.

    She obtained 5.5 points after six rounds of matches to clinch the top prize of KES 10,000 (USD 100).

    Julie Mutisya of Nakuru Chess Club was second with the same 5.5 points but lower on tie-break. She earned Sh.7,500 for her performance.

    Fransisca Kagwiria finished third with five points to go home with KES 5,000. WFM Sanjana Desphande who came back from semi retirement finished fourth with 5 points.

    A total of 66 players took part in the tournament an exclusive event for women and girls. It is part of Chess Kenya’s efforts to promote the sport among women in Kenya.

    Gloria Jumba the 2018 Kenya National Champion won the 1st edition of the Queen’s Rapid Chess Tournament.
