The Nkwazi Closed Invitational Chess Tournament

The Nkwazi Closed Invitational Chess Tournament is taking place this weekend.

The tournament commenced on 14th and runs to 16th February 2020, at the Russian Center for Science & Culture in Lusaka, Zambia.

The nine round-robin event has 9 of Zambia’s top players and a player from Botswana taking part.

Jeff Kanguma is the Tournament Director with Aaron Banda as Chief Arbiter and Kiddy Makwaya as Assistant Arbiter.

Several Zambian players have been trash talking about their opponents on various social media groups.  This became much louder after the Zambian Chess Federation selected the team for the 2020 Chess Olympiad.  The event will thus give the winner bragging rights in Zambia.
