The Nyanza South KNYCCC Regional Qualifiers
The Nyanza South Kenya National Youth & Cadets Chess Championships (KNYCCC) Regional Qualifiers 2020 took place on 29th February at the Chancellor’s Pavilion, Kisii University in Kisii County. This year’s event saw an increased number of participants and schools taking part since the intensive Chess in Schools campaign kicked off two years ago in the region.
The 2019 Nyanza South KNYCCC had just over 70 players.
This year’s edition had 100 players from 8 schools taking part. The schools included St Joseph’s Nyabigena Boys, St Edward Nyabioto Mixed Secondary School, St Vincent Depaul Boys Primary, Salvation Army Keng’uso Secondary School, Nyamira Boys High School, Nduru Girls, Nyambaria Boys High School and Set Green Hill Primary School.
The event was played as a six rounds Swiss System with time controls of 30 minutes per player. The top three players in each section received gold, silver and bronze medals and received Certificates of Merit.
All players received certificates of participation.
Kenya National Youth & Cadets Chess Championships Finals
Players who managed to score 2/6 points have since qualified for the Finals to be held in Mombasa County from 10th to 14th April at Sheikh Khalifa Secondary School. The below were the medalists:
