Austin Walela wins Kitengela Chess Championship

Austin Walela was the proud winner of the inaugural Kitengela Chess Championship which took place on 2nd October 2021. He obtained 5.5 points out of 6 rounds. Elvis Likoko also managed to get 5.5 points but had a slightly lower tie-break to end in second place.

James Panchol was third with 5 points.

The event held in the futuristic-looking Signature Mall along Mombasa Road, Kitengela, saw a total of 34 hopefuls taking part.

The junior section held a day earlier, on 1st October 2021, attracted just over 34 entrants. Rocky Muchiri was the clear winner with a perfect 6 points out of 6 rounds. Harry Ngalu was second with 5.5 points, and Kyle Kuka was third with the same points but a lower tie-break.
