GM Adham Fawzy wins 2022 Uganda Masters IM Norm Tournament
GM Adham Fawzy of Egypt was the winner of the 2022 Uganda Masters IM Norm Chess Tournament. He obtained 8.5 points out of nine rounds to go home with USD 1,000 as the first prize.
IM Gillan Bwalya of Zambia was second with 6.5 points, and he won a cash prize of USD 700.
East Africa’s top player IM Arthur Ssegwanyi was third with 6 points. He went home with a cash prize of USD 500.
The event, which Lyca Mobile sponsored, saw ten players from four federations (Egypt, Zambia, South Sudan, & Uganda) taking part.
The average rating of the event was 2249, making it certainly one of the most competitive events in East Africa.
The event ran from 18th to 23rd February 2022 at Kampala’s plush Fairways Boutique Hotel and Spa.

It was interesting that FM Harold Wanyama, who retired from active chess, ended up in 4th position with 5.5 points.
