2022 Kenya Open – Day 3 Report
Day 3 of the 2022 Kenya Open saw more thrilling action with Mehul Gohil using the French Defense to crush FM Harold Wanyama of Uganda in round five. FM Haruna Nsubuga in round six then overcame Mehul Gohil to avenge his compatriot’s loss.

CM Ben Magana managed to overcome a stubborn Brian Irungu, while on the other hand FM Patrick Kawuma of Uganda defeated compatriot Emmanuel Mukose.

2019 Kenya Open Champion Joseph Methu played well to draw against Emmanuel Egesa and FM Patrick Kawuma in rounds five and six.

IM Arthur Ssegwanyi defeated Rocky Muchiri in round 5 and Hillary Sagwa in round 6 to end the day in 6th position.

Sadam Ali – 2019 Kenya National PWD Champion
The 2019 Kenya National Champion PWD Sadam Ali continued to punch above his weight in the event. In round five, he defeated Ernest Otanga and then held Willy Simons to a draw in round six. Sadam Ali had an impressive 3.5 points out of 6 games at the end of day three.
When the Kenya Chess Masala media team asked Sadam Ali what he was eating for breakfast, he responded, ‘ I am currently fasting for Ramadhan’.

Ladies section
In the Ladies section 2021 Kenya National Ladies Champion WFM Sasha Mongeli defeated WCM Joyce Ndirangu in round five.
WFM Sasha Mongeli and WCM Joyce Ndirangu lead the event at the end of day three with 5 points each.
