Martin Njoroge wins 2022 Village Market Open
Martin Njoroge was again in top form when he clinched the 2022 Village Market Open last weekend. He took home KES 30,000 (USD 270) in this six-round event with just over 150 participants. He was undefeated in the tournament and obtained a perfect six points.
Ben Nguku and James Kabui were in joint second place with 5.5 points, and each earned KES 15,000 as their cash prize.

Ladies & Junior sections
WFM Joyce Nyaruai was the winner of the Ladies section with a perfect score of six points from six rounds. She won KES 20,000 (USD 180) as the first prize.
Nicole Albright was second with five points, and she took home KES 15,000. The Ladies section had 30 players taking part.
The event also had a junior section with various age categories for boys and girls.
Event organisers
Terrian Chess Academy and The Village Market were the event organisers, which had a record of just over 350 players taking part. The event had seven sections and included the Open, Ladies, U18, U14, U12, U10 and U8.
