CM Benjamin Magana wins the 2022 Kisumu Open

CM Benjamin Magana won the 2022 Kisumu Classical Open Chess Tournament that ended last weekend at the Scottish Tartan Hotel. He scored 5.5 points out of 6 rounds.

Joseph Methu also scored 5.5 out of 6 rounds and tied for first place with CM Benjamin Magana to share the cash prize of KES 32,500. However, CM Magana was declared the overall winner due to a better tie-break.

The FIDE-rated event attracted just over 60 hopefuls who battled for the total cash prize of KES 60,000 over six rounds.

Gloria Jumba, the 2018 Kenya National Ladies Chess Champion, went home with KES 10,000 for being the top lady. She scored 4.5 points to end up in joint third place and 8th in the overall ranking.
