    Liberia Olympiad Team set for Chennai

    Liberia Olympiad Team set for Chennai

    The Liberia Olympiad Team for the 2022 Chennai Olympiad, which starts in late July 2022, has been named.

    The Open Team

    The team comprises Liberian National Champion Bobby Ballah plus four other players selected from the gruelling 11-round qualifiers, which ran from 5th to 28th May 2022 at the W.V.S.Tubman High School in Monrovia.

    CM Daniel Kolliemelen made it into the team when he won the qualifiers with ten points out of eleven rounds.

    FM Harmon Baron the 2016 Liberian Chess Champion was second with 8.5 points, while Arnold Smith scored eight points to make it into the team. The final fifth slot was grabbed by Joel O Ebiekuta, edging out 2019 Liberian National Champion Thomas Saah, who was fifth.

    The 2019 Liberian Champion Thomas Saah saw his hopes dashed of making the team when he lost to Wallace O Williams in last and final round.

    Live transmission & video coverage

    In spite of the challenges, the Liberian Chess Federation went the extra mile in this important event by ensuring that the games were transmitted live with video streaming. The federation can be proud of hosting such an event with world-class standards.

    Furthermore, Liberia hosted the prestigious 2021Africa Junior Chess Championship, which took place in December 2021 in Monrovia.

    The Ladies Team

    Abigail Karyah, the talented 14-year-old, will make her maiden Olympiad appearance by being the current Liberian National Ladies Champion.

    Meleh N Davis and Tarplah Windsor will take the second and third slots. Teta Thompson and Princess K Banney will also be part of the team as the 4th and 5th players, respectively.
