Winnie Kaburo grabs gold for Kenya at 2022 AYCC
Winnie Kaburo grabbed the gold medal in the Girls U8 Section at the 2022 African Youth Chess Championship, which ended today in Lusaka, Zambia.
She beat a field of 15 players to end with a perfect score of 9 points out of 9 rounds. Her closest opponent Heaven Fady of Egypt, was a distant second with 8 points.
Frans-Leigh Roberts of South Africa was third with 5.5 points.

Two hundred and forty-six participants from 15 African federations participated in the event. Egypt dominated the event by winning nine of the twelve gold medals on offer! In addition, they scooped three silver and one bronze medal.

Winnie Kaburo, a student of Plainsview Academy in South B, Nairobi, was in action during the 2022 FIDE World School Chess Championship held in Panama last month. She scored 4.5 points out of nine rounds.
The event ran from 3rd to 9th July 2022 at the Mika Convention Centre, about 10 km from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.
FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich officially opened the tournament.
