64th Nairobi Chess Club Championship

Braeburn School, Gitanga Road, Nairobi, is the venue for the 64th Nairobi Chess Club Championship, which runs from 19th to 21st August 2022.

Chess players are excited about this event which they missed in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic.

James Panchol of South Sudan is the defending Champion and will be in action in the event, which boasts a modest prize of KES 87,500 (USD 800).

The competition will be stiff as the players play in three rating sections; Open, U1600 and U1400. Only the Open section will run over three days, while the U1600 and the U1400 will run on Saturday and Sunday. The U1400 section has prizes for specific age groups as well.

The tournament is FIDE rated, and the time control is 90 minutes plus 30 seconds for the Open and one hour flat for the other two sections.
