Yala Lyès sets Kenyan chess record

Yala Lyès, a national chess master from Algeria, set a new Kenyan record on 27th August 2022 when he played one hundred chess players at the Starwood Garden Hotel in Kerugoya, Kirinyaga County.

The Kenyan record was previously held by GM Viswanathan Anand when he took on 37 players in Mombasa on 23rd April 2017.

The event with several students from surrounding schools lasted about five hours, with the master winning all his games!

Yala Lyès was in action again on 28th August 2022 when he faced 56 players at the Brookshine School, in Nairobi. The final score was 49 wins, three losses and three draws in favour of the National Master. Her Excellency Ms Selma Malika Haddadi, the Algerian Ambassador to Kenya, was one of the dignitaries that attended the event.

Lighthouse Chess Club on 31st August 2022, then arranged a 63-player simultaneous at Oshwal Academy in Mombasa. The final result was 58 wins, two losses and three draws in favour of the National Master.

Yala Lyès has been travelling the world to enter the Guinness Book of Records as the chess player with the most simultaneous events ever.
