KCB Bank Chess Club wins 2022 Kenya Premier League
KCB Bank Chess Club received their trophy for winning the 2022 Kenya National Premier League with 43 points out of a maximum of 45 points last week. The team took home a cash prize of KES 100,000 (USD 800).
Nairobi Chess Academy and Club were second with 38 points to grab KES 50,000, while Jomo Kenyatta University was third with 36 points who went away with KES 30,000.
KCB Chess Club were in dominant form, with four team members winning individual board prizes from board two to five. These included;
Board 2 – Joseph Mehtu with 85%.
Board 3 – Jackson Ndegwa with 100%
Board 4 – Philip Singe with 81%. George Ochieng of Nairobi Chess Academy & Club also tied with the same percentage score.
Board 5 – Gloria Juma with 88%.
On the other hand, Chris Maina of Jomo Kenyatta University was the top player on board one, with an impressive score of 80%.
Each board prize winner took home KES 3,000 for their performance.
For Nairobi Chess Club, it was a season they wished to forget, ending up in the 13th position and avoiding relegation by a whisker!
The Premier League had sixteen teams competing across five boards with twelve players.

Super League
Lighthouse Chess Club (Alpha) lived up to their name by winning the Super League with 57 points to go home with KES 50,000 (USD 400).
Knights Chess Academy was second with 51 points to win KES 25,000, while Kisumu Chess Club were third with 49 points to win KES 15,000.

Board 1 – Gabriel Njuki of Elite Chess Academy & Club at 85%.
Board 2 – Maingi Lenox of Lighthouse Chess Club at 90%.
Board 3 – Job Nyandiko of Kisumu Chess Club at 89%.
Board 4 – Peter Claude of Lighthouse Chess Club at 95%.
Board 5 – Cheryl Ngima of Lighthouse Chess Club at 96%.
Each winner of the board prizes took home KES 2,000.
The Super League saw 22 teams competing for honours, with the top three winning promotion to the Premier League.
