Ben Magana wins 2023 Kisumu Classical Chess Tournament
Ben Magana of KCB Bank was in superb form when he clinched the 2023 Kisumu Classical Chess Tournament with an impressive 5.5 points out of 6 rounds. His teammate Joseph Methu scored 5.5 points but had a lower tie-break to take the silver medal.
They equally shared the cash prize of KES 37,500 in the event that ran over the weekend of 11th & 12th November 2023.
Over two days, the Open Section saw 100 participants battling it out over the six-round event. The time control was 60 minutes plus 30 seconds per move.

Ladies Section
Elizabeth Cassidy Maina, on the other hand, who is just twelve years old, emerged as the sole winner in the Ladies Section with 5.5 points to go home with KES 10,000.
The Ladies Section included renowned stars like 2018 Kenya National Champion Gloria Jumba and 2022 World Amateur Champion U1700 Glenda Madelta, who scored 5 points each.
The Ladies Section had 30 participants.
