Knights Chess Academy wins Nairobi Junior League
Knights Chess Academy reigned supreme in the inaugural Nairobi Junior Chess League with a perfect score of 10/10 points.
Makini School on the other hand gave a commendable performance, claiming second place with 9/10 points, though they lost their final match to the formidable Knights Chess Academy.
Knights Chess Academy B showed their prowess by taking third place with 8/10 points, despite losing two games to Knights Chess Academy and Makini School.
The event saw a total of eight teams competing.
Top players in the respective boards
Board 1 Boys:
Ethan Kariuki of Makini School with an impressive 9/10 points. Ethan had also finished 6th at Schools National Championship in the U13 open category
Board 1 Girls:
Atarah Bella of Knights Chess Academy with 9/10 points.
Board 2 Boys:
Najibu Moses of Kibera Knights, with a perfect score of 10/10.
Board 2 Girls:
Lavender Syombua of Kibera Knights, boasting 6/10 points.
Board 3 Boys:
Andy John of Knights Chess Academy with 10/10 points.
Board 3 Girls:
Annette Munyali of Kibera Knights, with a remarkable 9/10 points.
The junior league event is a welcome addition to the junior chess scene, which is currently dominated by several rapid events. The league event is a great way to teach the Kenyan youth the culture of classical time controls.
